Cookie Scanner: Support Query Parameters in Included URLs
Lars Friis
Some tools only set cookies when specific query parameters are present in the URL.
Currently, cookies from these tools are not detected by the scanner because the required query parameters are typically not present in the site’s internal links. They are only included when users enter the site through specific external links or campaigns.
As a result, URLs containing query parameters need to be scanned explicitly. However, when URLs with query parameters are added to the “Include URLs” list, the scanner currently ignores the query parameters.
Examples of scenarios where cookies are commonly set based on URL parameters include:
- Affiliate marketing links
- Email tracking links
- Click ID cookies from marketing platforms such as Bing Ads, Meta Ads, and Google Ads
Suggested improvement
:Allow the scanner to crawl and scan URLs including query parameters when they are explicitly added to the “Include URLs” list.

It would be ideal if Cookie Script had a standard feature to have the site scanned with a long list of default url parameters (in line with the ones Lars mentions in his suggestion), which could simply be ticked off in the settings. All users really need to have their site scanned with such url parameters, but many users do not know it themselves - and therefore need help to get to the finish line with the cookie scan.
